If you want a receipt when paying by mail you must enclose a self addressed stamped envelope or your email information at the time of payment. Please add sufficient postage for the number of receipts you are requesting. Normally, your cancelled check is your receipt.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes, we are able to accept credit/debit cards in the office and online. There is a fee for using this service charged by the card processor.

Can someone else get ownership of my property by paying my taxes?

No, anyone can pay on someone else’s taxes but that does not give them any legal right to the property.

Can you help me with my state and federal income tax also?

No, we can only deal with Coos County property tax. You should call either the Oregon Department of Revenue or the Internal Revenue Service for help. Local libraries usually carry the forms during income tax time.

Do I have to come to Coquille to make a payment?

You can either come into the Coquille office, pay by mail, pay online, or drop a payment in our dropbox next to our door whichever you prefer. We do accept postmark as the paid date. If you are paying close to the deadline for a payment be sure to ask your post office to postmark it immediately to insure you receive your discount and/or prevent accrued interest.

How much interest do I pay? Are there other charges?

The interest rate is 1 1/3% each month or 16% per year on the past due portion. Liens are recorded on past due Personal Property each year after May 15. The charge for recording the lien is $62.00.

I live overseas, how can I make my payment?

If you wish to avoid interest, you must pay the installments by their due dates. You can make a payment online or by mail. A postmark is accepted on all payments. Your payment must be in USA funds, we are unable to accept foreign funds of any kind.

I need to know the square footage, the age of my home, and the value, do I talk to you?

No, you need the Assessor’s office; their number is 541-396-7900. They will be glad to answer your questions.

I will be gone when the bills come out, what can I do; I want to get the discount?

You can request an emailed copy of your statement once they become available in mid-October. Once the tax amounts become available, you can view them online or you can contact our office for the amounts. You can pay online or by mail. A postmark is accepted as the paid date.

What if I can’t pay the total installment amount?

Interest will start to accrue on any installment payment not paid in full by its due date.

What if I feel my taxes are too high?

You cannot appeal the amount of your taxes but you can appeal the value. On the back of your tax statement is the information on how to appeal. You can get the appeal forms from either the Assessor’s office or the County Clerk. The deadline to file a value appeal is December 31.

When are my property taxes due?

If you wish to avoid interest, you must pay the installment by their due dates. The first installment is due on November 15 and the second and third installments are due February 15 and May 15. If the due date falls on a weekend, it’s extended to the next working day for current year taxes only. We do accept postmark as the payment date.
