Community Corrections

Mission Statement

Coos County Community Corrections shall promote public safety by holding offenders accountable and attempting to reduce future criminal behavior through community partner involvement, programming and incarceration.

Core Values

Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Accountability

Adult Parole and Probation

Adult Parole and Probation has a mission that differs from other public safety agencies. While enforcement and accountability are essential components of our work, parole and probation is uniquely tasked within the criminal justice system with offender reformation in addition to enforcement. This dual responsibility balancing public safety with behavior change sets parole and probation apart from other public safety disciplines.

Coos County Community Corrections currently supervises approximately 450 adult offenders using funding that is dedicated and restricted by state law specifically for parole and probation services. These funds must be used in accordance with statutory requirements and cannot be redirected to other public safety functions.

In response to revenue reductions at all levels of government, the department has focused on innovation and the implementation of Evidence Based Practices. These practices include cognitive and behavioral interventions, monitoring treatment progress, and the use of work crews and jail sanctions when appropriate. Our approach emphasizes accountability while supporting offenders in developing the skills necessary to live crime free and productive lives.
